The Targeted Change
If any of you are like me, you're looking for a sea change in the way your life is going...something monumental but subtle at the same time. It just turned February today, and once again i find myself taking stock of things as I dust the new jewelry cases in the shop. Rearranging the jewels and sequined purses and embroidered bags, I am filled with, strangely, much hope for this year. There's something about cleaning, polishing, rearranging material things that triggers the urge to, well, set things straight. For me personally, I know it will be a year of setting many things straight that went awry in the last couple of years. Who do any of us have to thank for this so very subtle and yet illuminating change of heart? The love of friends and family, and the very true love coming from within one's self. As Walt Whitman wrote
One's-self I sing, a simple separate person,
Yet utter the word Democratic, the word En-Masse.
Of physiology from top to toe I sing,
Not physiognomy alone nor brain alone is worthy for the Muse, I say
the Form complete is worthier far,
The Female equally with the Male I sing.
There's more to the poem, but i like it ending there just so :) Anyway, this is a month for targeted change. This goes for the energy you expend on yourself and others-- fight the chosen battle and don't lose the war. So, don't be overwhelmed with the prospect of "making over" your "tired" wardrobe. Take it easy! Just buy one or two things that symbolize the change you feel. A pair of simple earrings hanging fine silver chain and chalcedony, or a fitted shirt that says hello to you in the morning when you rummage through your closet.
If you're like me, adding things to your accoutrement of personality (that is, your *look,* the *joie de vivre* that is that simple separate you that you can sing) is a fun, guilt-free, and satisfying way to spend a rainy Sunday, for instance, while others are filling their beer bellies and chuffing in front of the StuporBowl! And why shouldn't you be nice to yourself and try on something here that feels good? Spring a-line skirts in pretty patterns are beckoning on the racks. Get some sparkly beaded hair elastics to go with the skirt. Grab a sheer silk fuschia scarf to frame your bright and hopeful face. Find some cowboy boots. Dare to lilt your voice like Patsy Cline on Blue Moon of Kentucky! (Don't just dare, then, do it.)
Or, if you're not feeling spring chicken-y, and you're still a little agog from the chill, try on the superlight and fine wool pieces we have. You can't have too much of this fabric, in the zip-up hoodies, the kangaroo pocket hoodie, the cowl necks, the demure but charming Tara top with its sweet tie at the neck.
Well, I know some of you were hidden away today for football and because of the fine and trickly rain, but come by come by! We love to see you!
